Session #103 · 1993–95

Speech #1030066224

But the very fact that the Cunningham amendment is here. is illustrative of why the Baker amendment. characterized by his colleague from California as meanspirited. is bad and unworkable. Now. this amendment by the gentleman from California would exempt the teaching of religion. religious tenets. and religious services. But what if the religious group was operating a hospice for people who are dying of AIDS or cancer and these are medical service people who come in to work in that hospice. Does it still mean. I say to the gentleman from California . that before one of the national service kids could bring a patient in a bedpan. he would have to see his green card? That is how ridiculous his language is.
