I am cochairman of the congressional human rights caucus. a caucus that does serve as a special interest representative. We represent such interests as refuseniks. Chinese students. rape victims in Bosnia. starving Somalis. oppressed Kurds and Bahais and other innocent victims. Our members. since 1983. have helped over 1.500 prisoners of conscience find their voice in Congress and the executive branch. and thousands of others. to avoid torture. repression. and the lack of an ability to emigrate. We do get a lot of work down around here. perhaps more than is done in any other way. We have helped Andrey Sakharov.
