It is the worlds and our Nations language. of commerce. diplomacy and opportunity. We must recognize this reality through a formal declaration that English is Americas official language. In addition. we must reexamine the failed policies that have brought us to this precipice. The 40 million Americans mentioned earlier who are being segregated from the American economy and society are not just recent immigrants. but in many cases Americans who were born in this country. What is especially tragic is that our own Government is encouraging this trend through failed policies. including: Bilingual education programs. Multilingual ballots. and Other government language services.
