In February 1973. the base was the scene of joyful reunions as United States prisoners of war began returning to the United States from Vietnam. In 1981. the people of Andrews witnessed the return of the United States hostages from Iran. In 1985. the flight line had the Nations attention with the return of TWA flight 847s hostages from Beirut. Andrews was also a key arrival and departure point for troops. diplomats. and refugees throughout Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Today. through Andrews. President Clinton and his administration access communities around the United States as well as the world continuing our countrys legacy of peace and good will.
