President Assad and Foreign Minister Sharra assured him that Syria is committed to the policy announced last April. Despite these statements. very few passes are being issued and families are being separated in the process. This is clearly not in line with the policy announced by Syria last year. Mr. President. free emigration must be extended to all Jews living in Syria. and the Syrian Government must provide permission for the reunification of divided families. There can be no negotiating on this issue. I join with all those concerned about the plight of Syrian Jews to urge the Syrian Government to end this policy of discrimination and oppression.*
