Mr. President. the second revision to the inspector pay bill should have been to ensure that the customs officer is paid double time for all work performed on Sunday. This suggested pay change is in line with every other Federal border representative agency. including the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Border Patrol. As I have stated on more than one occasion. I cannot think of a more demoralizing position for the Customs inspector to be in than to be paid considerably less for working Sundays than other border enforcement agencies. particularly when in some instances they have greater responsibility and are working under more arduous conditions. Mr. President.
