Speech #1020207221

Mr. President. I rise to comment on President Bushs recent announcement that he will now support Israels request for loan guarantees to assist with that countrys immigrant absorption efforts. First. I am pleased that the United States and Israel have finally been able to come to terms on this matter. I have supported providing the loan guarantees in the past. with appropriate conditions. and I look forward to working together with my colleagues to ensure their approval in the near future. My recent trip to Israel expanded my understanding of the myriad issues involved in providing these guarantees and. in particular. the implications for Israels economy.
