I am horrified by the senseless slaughter and destruction that is taking place in Bosnia. Who cannot be moved by the pictures we see daily of dead and wounded civilianswaiting in line outside a store to buy bread. at a cemetery burying a murdered grandchild? Who is not shocked by the stories coming out with flood of refugees. stories of ethnic cleansing. of death. and mistreatment in camps eerily reminiscent of the Holocaust. What is so chilling about the civilian toll is that these unfortunates are not inadvertently caught in the crossfire. they are the intended targets and victims of a deliberate and horrific campaign to rid greater Serbia of any unwanted inhabitants of the wrong ethnic or religious background. Seeing these pictures and hearing these stories. many people are calling for the United States to do somethinga most natural reaction.
