She was described as a tireless worker for the benefit of all segments of our community. Under her leadership. the Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Center was transformed. from a small outreach project. into the single largest provider of health and social services to the elderly in the State of Florida. Among her other important achievements was initiating the first education. employment. and housing programs geared to assist immigrants from Cuba. Haiti. and Nicaragua. -Also nominated for this prestigious award were Attorney Alan Weisberg. who was nominated by Mayor Xavier Suarez. and Poitier Funeral Home director. Bernard Poitier. who was nominated by Commissioner Miller Dawkins.
