Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020165842

What alarms me most is we have escalated that negative special treatment. and we are now condemning Haitians to die by drowning at sea. Our Government has much to be ashamed of. Every American is tainted by this position taken by our Government. Given Haitians. who are fleeing persecution. who are fleeing a dangerous situation. giving them temporary shelter is the least we can do. Madam Speaker. I would like to submit for publication in the CONGRESSIONAL RECORD an article by Bill Frelick which appeared in the Sunday. May 24. Washington Post concerning Haitians forced repatriation. Mr. Frelick is a senior policy analyst for the U.S. Committee for Refugees. Madam Speaker. I submit the article for the RECORD. (From the Washington Post.
