The third question is: If we approve the Lautenberg amendment. does this mean that we approve of all of Israeli policy? Obviously. it does not. I happen to disagree with Israel on the settlements question. But. Mr. President. we have an obligation. We pushed the Soviet Union to lot these people go free. but we said that we are only going to let so many come in here. These people who have emigrated from the Soviet Unionwhat was the Soviet Unionnow are welcomed into Israel. Can we simply say. "sorry. we have no responsibility whatsoever here?" I think not. My hope is thatwe will agree to the Lautenberg amendment and agree to it overwhelmingly.
