Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020144155

I rise to introduce to my colleagues two important pieces of legislation that aim to improve the state of language education in America. As we all know. people have come to the shores of the United States from every continent. from every country on Earth. Many of my respected colleagues In the House of Representatives are. in fact. immigrants to this great land. Immigrants to this country bring with them their desire to succeed. their love of freedom. and their own culture and language. From the beginning. the United States has benefited and been enriched by these Immigrants. as different as they look and sound. The music of many languages flows through the cities and countryside of the United States. This is a rich heritage that should be nurtured. cherished. and promoted.
