The very least we can do is acknowledge what we already know to be right in our hearts and minds. The United States is the symbol of freedom and democracy for all the peoples of our world but. go far. we have failed the people of Haiti. Today we have a chance to offer them a fighting chance for freedom. The modest resolution before us will provide the Haitian refugees with a 6month safe haven in Guantanamo Bay. and will direct the President to set aside 2.000 refugee numbers for Haitians. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of the Haitian Refugee Protection Act.
