Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020129919

The White House. Washington. DC. DEAR MR. PRESIDENT: I write about a matter of great urgency. The Supreme Court recently upheld the authority of the Attorney General to deport Joseph Patrick Doherty without a hearing. Mr. Doherty is now subject to deportation to the United Kingdom. I urge you to intercede with Attorney General Barr on this matter to direct that Mr. Doherty receive a hearing on his petition for asylum. Mr. Doherty was convicted in absentia before a British court of the murder of an English Army captain. He was arrested in this country and has spent over eight years in prison here without a hearing.
