Senator KENNEDY. in introducing temporary protected status legislation for Haiti. The military coup in Haiti represents a sad chapter in Haitis history. Less than 1 year ago. the free election of President Aristide gave many in Haiti hope for a better future. The violence in Haiti indicates that this military junta has very little support among the people. I support the administrations decision not to recognize this military coup and to withhold assistance to Haiti while this illegitimate government is in power.
