Mr. Speaker. I rise in support of House Concurrent Resolution 188. calling for freedom of emigration and travel for Syrian Jews. Approximately 4.000 Jews remain In Syria. unable to leave Syria or even travel freely within the country. If these Jews do wish to leave Syria and have the financial means to do so. they must pay a huge monetary deposit and leave family members behind as assurance for their return. The reason. Mr. Chairman. the Syrian Jews have such a desire to leave Syria should not surprise us. They are concentrated in ghettos where they are monitored 24 hours a day by the Syrian secret police (Mukhabarat).
