The bottom line is Mongolia has taken the bold steps making it eligible for mostfavorednation trading status. Almost every country in the world. except the Soviets and certain pariah states like North Korea. Libya. and Iraq. enjoy MFN status. Mongolia is part of the international community of responsible nations. This relatively small commercial gesture by the United States means a great deal to the Mongolians. It will be of great benefits to United StatesMongolian relations. Clearly. it is in our best national security interests to improve relations with this rugged country strategically situated between the Soviet Union and Communist China.
