Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020073397

Mr. President. I am pleased to join today with my colleague on the Immigration and Refugee Affairs Subcommittee. and cosponsor with me of The Immigration Act of 1990. Senator SIMPSON. in offering this technical corrections bill to the sweeping immigration legislation we passed in the last hours of the last Congress. As our colleagues may remember. the opportunity to achieve final action upon a decadelong effort to secure immigration reform came only in the last days before Congress was scheduled to adjourn sine die. It came when the House completed action October 3 on a bill previously passed by the Senate the year before. That gave conferees only a matter of days to resolve major differences between bills that were several hundred pages long.
