Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020066238

When Mike Masaoka returned from the war as a decorated veteran. he re49059 095 Vol. 137 (Pt. 14) 10 dedicated his life to winning acknowledgment and restitution for the injustice of the internment program and to winning full recognition of the right of Americans of Japanese ancestry to firstclass citizenship. In this. he succeeded brilliantly. Mike Masaoka led the drive for repeal of the Japanese Exclusion Act. He lived to see his efforts culminate in restitution and apology to the surviving AJAs who had been unjustly interned during the Second World War. As my colleagues know. as I say these words It strikes me yet once again how much we take the obvious for granted.
