Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020062707

Mr. Speaker. since the late 1800s. millions of immigrants have passed through Ellis Island to reach the United States. Today. we are the most culturally diverse nation in the world. As a nation comprised of a huge cross culture of ethnic groups and languages. we must not remain strangers to each otherwe must be able to communicate. I am an original cosponsor of the Language of Government Act. a statute to declare English as the official language of the United States. By designating English as the official language we will create a common channel of communication for all cultures in our Nation.
