Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020059909

From totalitarian Communist dictatorships to free political systems. Though yet fragile. both nations have embraced free market principals. renouncing the centralized economies of a previous era. And both nations have accorded their citizens the right not only to emigrate. but even to travel freely. unimpeded by that greatest of symbols of the cold war. the Berlin Wall. The bill would allow the President to remove the application of the JacksonVanik provision to Czechoslavakia. or the Czech and Slovak Republic as it is now called. and Hungary. thus extending to them without condition MFN treatment. I urge my colleagues to join me in support of this most worthy initiative. and ask unanimous consent that the text of the bill be printed in the RECORD.
