Mr. Speaker. the Defense chapter of the refugee assistance supplemental conference agreement provides for the transfer of $320.500.000 from the Persian Gulf Regional Defense Fund to the military personnel and operation and maintenance accounts of the Defonse Department in order to finance the defense costs of Operation Provide Comfort. These 4unds will cover the military personnel costs. supplies. transportation and other support costs associated with the relief effort for refugees and displaced persons in and around Iraq. Also $16 million is appropriated from the Interest earned on balances In the Defense Cooperation Accountgift fundto the military relief societies. These funds will provide additional aid to members of our Armed Forces which have Incurred added hardships based on the deployment relating to Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
