Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010232630

There are hundreds of thousands over there that would like to be free. But we do not offer them the opportunity to be free. I am not advocating we change our immigration laws. But that argument that there is not freedom of emigrationcertainly there is not freedom of emigration. because there is no place to go if you are Chinese. Our Government tells us that every Chinese person that we have admitted has been released before they were able to emigrate. In other words. we decided who we accepted out of all the applicants. and the Chinese Government released all of those people to us as immigrants. The freedom of the students to come here is still in existence. not as wide open as it once was. I hope it will return to a more open status.
