Speech #1010187542

Mr. Speaker. I rise today to pay tribute to the Jednota. the First Catholic Slovak Union. The Jednota will be celebrating its 100th anniversary on September 4. Between 1880 and 1924 there was a mass immigration of Slovaks to the United States and like all other groups of immigrants. they made their own contibutions to American society. People of Slovak descent worked hard to help create the America we know today. They worked long hard hours in coal mines. forges and furnaces of steel mills. industrial plants and farms. But what Americans of Slovak heritage are best known for Is their profound faith and devotion to keep God and their love for their homeland.
