Mr. Speaker. I rise to honor the birth 134 years ago today of a distinguished scientist and inventor. Nikola Testa. Mr. Tesla was born in 1856 in Serbia. which is now Yugoslavia. and emigrated to the United States at the age of 28. Mr. Tesla was a scientist ahead of his time because he believed that alternate electric current could provide light and power systems. Most scientists of his time rejected this idea. Mr. Tesla remained firm in his convictions and worked with George3 Westinghouse to market this system. Todays electricity. of course. is provided through alternate current. Mr. Teslas other Inventions include transformers. induction coils. condensers. and incandescent lamps.
