Mr. Speaker. as part of the congressional call to conscience vigil for 1990. I would like to use this opportunity to call attention to the particularly difficult plight of Lia and Lev Milman who for years have been denied the right to emigrate from the Soviet Union. Although many Jews have been permitted to leave the Soviet Union. there are still many cases unresolved. As some of my colleagues are aware. Lev Milman and his wife first applied to emigrate from the Soviet Union in 1988. they have been denied each time they applied for reasons of state secrecy. Their daughter. Maria. emigrated to the United States in 1988. and lives in Massachusetts. She is hoping to see her parents once again and help care for them as they are both in ill health. Lev suffers from heart disorders and Lia has been diagnosed as having lymphoma of the spleen.
