It used to be that Soviet antiSemitism was a government of quasigovernment activity. It was normal for a Jew. with government sanction. to be denied a job. an education. an apartment simply because he was Jewish or because he applied for immigration to Israel. But now that government sponsored antiSemitism has been toned down and greater expression allowed. antiSemitic groups have spawned all over the country. The Soviet government has failed to distance itself from it. condemn it. and act against it.
