Speech #1010148491

Mr. Speaker. today I want to draw attention to the issue of antiSemitism in the Soviet Union. I want to discuss the Soviet Unions promise to liberalize its policies. There is no doubt that the number of Soviets allowed to emigrate has increased dramatically. In March alone. 10.501 Jews emigrated from the Soviet Unionand 10.331 went to Israel. I would like to point out. however. that many of the fundamental problems causing Soviet Jews to flee their country are still present and are not being adequately addressed. While I am pleased at the signs of liberalization. I am aware that they are only signs.
