I rise today to commend Gladys Sandlin. a leader in San Franciscos Hispanic community. who has selflessly dedicated her time and energy to the Improvement of health and social services for San Franciscos Spanishspeaking community. Gladys Sandlin immigrated to the United States from Chile approximately 30 years ago. Upon settling in San Francisco. she was Instrumental in implementing culturally and linguistically appropriate cancer education in the mission district as program coordinator of the American Cancer Societys education unit from 1974 to 1977. Gladys later coordinated the UCSF/SFGH Pednatal Health Projects Clinic management. eligibility. and social sarvIce components. while also serving as patient advocate and community liaison/consultant.
