Mr. Speaker. I want to take this opportunity to speak out about an important test case for the principle of due process rights in this country. The case at issue concerns Mr. Joseph Patrick Thomas Doherty. a man who has now been held by United States authorities for over 6 years pending a decision on deporting him to the United Kingdom. While the details and political rights and wrongs of this famous case have been much discussed. I wish to lend my voice to the growing number of Members who are concerned about the observance of Mr. Dohertys due process rights in his protracted legal battle.
