The Greek democratic beacon still shines bright and clear. enhanced by more than 169 years of independence. Beyond our shared democratic heritage. GreekAmerican ties are strengthened by the interaction of our people. Greek immigrants have made significant contributions to nearly every aspect of American culture. including literature. art. medicine. music. sports. and politics. The Greek Orthodox faith has become an important segment of the diverse elements of the American religious community. last year I had the pleasure of congratulating Archbishop Iakovos upon the 30th anniversary of his leadership of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America.
