Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010118999

I think there is no necessity at this time to pass legislation such as this. I cannot help but think of a fellow who came in my office about 2 years ago. He was an illegal alien and the Immigration and Naturalization Service had caught him. His boss brought him in. He was a migrant worker. He had a Social Security card. he had a drivers license. he had a pickup truck he had bought on time and was paying for through the bank. He had 5 kids in public school and he was illegal. I cannot imagine him going and getting his drivers license at the county courthouse and them asking: "Well now. are you an illegal alien?" And he would say. "Yes." When he goes and gets his drivers license. they are going to register him to vote. and I think that this bill really begs for fraud. I think we do not need it. I am opposed to it and I hope we vote it down.
