Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010117678

The United States firmly believes that the costs of the Committee on the Rights of the Children that will be established by the convention should be borne exclusively by the states that ratify the convention. In our view. the committee established by the convention is not a UN body. but an instrument of the states parties to the convention. The current draft of the Convention on the Rights of the Children addresses many of the social concerns facing the children of the world. I would like to highlight a number of the key elements that the U.S. Government supports. Family Reunification. We are particularly concerned about the reunification of famllies so that children and parents can live together. Abuse and Neglect.
