We have an opportunity today to stand on the side of freedomto stand with the courageous Chinese students and to express our abhorrence of the cruel tactics of the Chinese leaders in Beijing. We know that the oppression goes on. Two days ago. at a hearing by the Immigration Subcommittee. we heard first hand evidence of the continuing harassment of Chinese students by their government. We heard that the efforts of the Chinese Government to eradicate dissent have now extended to the United States itself. Chinese students in this country who have continued to speak for freedom have been threatened by Chinese Embassy officials and their families in China have been harassed and interrogated.
