Mr. President. today I rise to introduce two bills designed to encourage our best undergraduate and graduate students to enter the teaching profession. Our educational system makes a vital contribution to our society and our economy. Our schools educate our workers. our citizens. our immigrants. our disadvantaged. Our schools can only be as good as our teachers. We must do all that we can to ensure that our teachers are the very best. Conflicting pressures on the schools. combined with limited resources. has placed a tremendous set of demands on our teachers. Our children must be educated to be good citizens so that we can function as a society.
