Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010056873

This is not to say. however. that we have not already taken several important steps In our response to the dictatorial behavior of the Chinese Government. I strongly agree with the decision to terminate United States military ties with China. I also applaud our efforts to help Chinese refugees who have fled their homeland in fear of being executed for their peaceful exercise of rights we take for granted. Furthermore. I support the visa status change to protect Chinese students in the United States. The Senate leaderships amendment. for which I voted. undoubtedly was a step in the right direction. It proved once again that the United States of America will not ignore ruthless military actions against unarmed civilian demonstrators.
