Chairman. for all of these reasons. I think that it would be unwise for this Congress to pass EVD. particularly in light of the fact that we have legislation that serves the same purposes. and is called the safehaven legislation. I am a cosponsor. and all of the Republican Members of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration are cosponsors. as is the gentleman from Kentucky . the chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration. The reason this is a better approach is. first of all. it is generic. It is not nationspecific as this bill. and second. it would instruct the Attorney General to determine EVD and state the reasons why EVD status has been offered.
