In defense of the bill. some claim that EVD status is granted only until a GAO report provides us with more informaiton as to the conditions in El Salvador and Nicaragua for those living there. However. another GAO report is not needed for El Salvador. We have had a report that has determined that to be nondeterminable. The truth of the matter is. this really is not going to result in any type of temporary EVD status. It is in reality going to serve as a blanket amnesty on top of the blanket amnesty that we passed in last years immigration bill. and this is. I think. a very hidden way of achieving that objective. One other point that badly needs to be stressed.
