Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000024354

During the hearing. a phone call was placed to Benjamin in Moscow. and he was able to communicate with his brother and the members of the subcommittee. The overwhelming emotion present in the room made further discussion and testimony unnecessary. Benjamin has endured the hardships placed upon him and other Jews in the Soviet Union. The Soviets continue to deny him permission to emigrate. although his condition has worsened. If he does not receive medical attention soon. he might not survive. The Soviet Union continues to deprive citizens their fundamental human rights. despite agreements that have been signed in the past.
