Mr. President. I rise to join my distinguished colleague from New Jersey in urging the Senate to express its desire that the American Museum of Immigration be kept in its current location at the base of the Statue of Liberty. This year marks the centennial anniversary of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. On July 4 we celebrated this happy event with great fanfare. An important part of the statues significance. indeed a place for the keeping of tangible records of the history that the statue itself is a symbol of. is the American Museum of Immigration. In the past several years the future of the museum has been in some doubt. The National Park Service has on several occasions expressed a desire to move the museum to Ellis Island. away from its symbolic proximity to Lady Liberty.
