Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990282871

The Congress felt that when we went back home to our districts and talked to people about what their problems were. the drug issue continued to come up time after time. We came back here and we met with the gentleman from Texas . the majority leader. the gentleman from Illinois . and other members of our committee and talked about how we could best deal with this in an omnibus way. What we have before us today is the product of that work and that concern expressed by the American people. a strong eradication effort. pressure on noncooperating countries. interdiction. more resources for the Coast Guard. for Customs. for the Border Patrol. indeed to allow the military posse comitatus to be more helpful in strengthening our criminal laws and dealing with increased efforts at confiscation. increased penalties. increased penalties for money laundering. Yes. I want the death penalty.
