I rise in support of the conference report. And this is a weaker bill than the one that we passed on Thursday. Gone is the sunset provision on sanctions. gone is the provision changing the political status of refugees from El Salvador and Nicaragua. gone is the freetrade zone with Mexico to promote border revitalization. but. thankfully. discrimination protection stays. But the heart of the bill. legalization. stays. We must act now. This is the final hour for immigration reform. This is the final hour for millions of people who have no lobbyists but who deserve some status in this country. These are men and women who are black. brown. and yellowskinned.
