A number of them have been invited to participate in experimental treatment programs in the West and there remains some hope for treatment. The nature of their illness requires the presence and emotional support of their families. Unfortunately. although these individuals have applied for visas on numerous occasions. they have been refused and they are numered among the thousands of Soviet Jewish refuseniks who wish to leave the Soviet Union and be reunited with their families. A number of us have visited with these individuals on visits to the Soviet Union and others have monitored reports of their cases. But all of us have been touched by their bravery and their pleas. and have been impressed with the need for urgency in favorably resolving these emigration cases and permitting these individuals to seek further treatment in the United States and nations where this treatment is available as soon as possible. We join in urging you to allow Inna Meiman. Benjamin Charny.
