During these holiest of days. as Congressman from the 11th Congressional District of Illinois. I extend my greetings and best wishes for a happy new year to my many constituents and friends of the Jewish faith. as well as to all Jews throughout the world. especially those who must daily live a dismal existence under the tyranny and oppression of Communist rule. This year we have seen the joyous release of "Natan ben Sharon" Shcharansky and the other members of the family. and we pray that the new year 5747 will bring with it a relaxation of restrictions so that hundreds and thousands of Jews will be allowed to emigrate to Israel so that they. too. may celebrate these high holidays in freedom. "May you be inscribed in the Book of Life for a good year. L Shannah Tovah Tikatevu." and let us also hope and pray that the coming year brings us closer to a lasting peace in the Middle East. and a new life for Soviet Jews free from the oppression of Communists "next year in Jerusalem."
