Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990226773

I am an American citizen who was stripped of former Soviet citizenship 11 years ago. I have been trying to get out of the Soviet Union with my family since then. Neither my son nor my wife are Soviets. To recapitulate my story: After ten years of my fight to be released. the Soviets finally in March 1985 allowed. even pressured. part of my family to get out. but insisted that we abandon my daughterinlaw. Julia Shurukht. in Russia. The chief of the national Visa Office. R.A. Kuznetsov. made it clear that this would not be a temporary separation. my son and his wife would never see each other again.
