Today I would like to share with my colleagues an incredible document on the situation in Afghanistan. recently passed by the European Parliament in a vote of 219 to 33. with 19 abstentions. I would like to point out some of the major observations and provisions of the resolution. The resolution observes that: The problem of the presence of millions of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and other countries has assumed dramatic proportions. The majority of the Afghan people oppose the government in Kabul. the Soviet influence on their domestic policies. and the military occupation by the Red Army. The Soviet Union has ignored repeated international calls for its withdrawal from Afghanistan. even increasing the number of its troops there to over 121.000 in 1985.
