Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990217714

No agreement in Cyprus future is possible as long as the sham government in the north receives support from Turkey. and as long as the Turkish Cyriots obstruct a constructive search for a lasting peace on the island. Today. we also deplore the resettlement of the vacated northern territories by Turks from the mainland. The immigration of mainland Turks to the economic chaos of occupied Cyprus is a practice condemned even by the Turkish Cypriots. Turkeys involvement in the illegal resettlement is clear. and we must make the Turkish Government know of our dissatisfaction. The effect of the forced division of the island is to prevent the peaceful coexistence of Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
