Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990199107

I am proud to be a cosponsor of this important legislation. and encourage other colleagues to consider supporting it as well. One of the proudest traditions that the United States can point to in its short history is the one that allows a man or woman to come here. seek work. put down new roots. and achieve a success that is the envy of the rest of the world. It is so very true that we are a great nation of immigrants. and the pluralism of an immigrant society creates a richness and texture to the American landscape that is unparalleled elsewhere. Our heritage is filled with names from faroff places. But in any culture. one of the ties that binds and strengthens that culture is the tie of common tongue.
