Anatoly Shcnaransky was barred from social and employment opportunities. and became somewhat of a social outcast. Unable to realize his spiritual fulfillment in the Soviet Union. Anatoly ShchFransky applied for emigration from the Soviet Union to Israel in 1973. His application was met with denial on unclear terms spurring Mr. Shcharansky to appeal to Soviet law for legal assistance and just representation. Mr. Shcharanskys appeal to justice had the reverse effect. as he was run the gamut of harassment and emigration refusals. and eventually sentenced to 9 years imprisonment for treason and espionage. As one of the founders of the Congressional Friends of Human Rights Monitors. I have great faith in the power of men and women such as Mr.
