Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990177815

Henry Morgenthau. led the outcry against the atrocities at the time. For years. Morgenthau tried to alert our Government to the tragedy. In one message he wrote: When the Turkish authorities gave the orders for these deportations they were merely giving the death warrant to a whole race. I have by no means told the most terrible details. for a complete narration of the sadistic orgies of which these Armenian men and women were the victims can never be printed in an American publication ... I am confident that the whole history of the human race contains no such horrible episode as this.
